When to Call an Emergency Dentist

An Emergency Dentist for Your Urgent Dental Needs

It’s probably going to happen when it’s least convenient – you or a family member will have to deal with a dental emergency. Despite coming in for regular check and cleans and maintain great oral hygiene, you may chip a tooth or have a dental crown fall off. Some dental emergencies should be addressed immediately, while others may be able to wait a few days.

What is an Emergency?

If you’re experiencing pain or had some kind of dental accident, call our friendly staff right away and let us know what’s going on. We provide emergency dental services around Perth to patients who need relief from their toothaches and other major issues.

Here are three common examples of common dental emergencies we see at our office:

Knocked Out Tooth

If a tooth fell out, we can often save a knocked-out tooth, but we only have a few hours, so you must act quickly. Hold the tooth by the crown (the round biting surface), and place it in a container of milk, water, or saliva, then call us right away. Don’t touch the root.

Massive Tooth Pain

If you have a toothache, it always indicates a problem. It may have been caused by something like an accident or severe decay in a tooth. If it’s severe enough to disrupt your day, you’ll want to get it sorted ASAP. If not taken care of, there is a small chance of losing the tooth, so call our Mt Lawley dental office, and we can usually see you the same day.

Lost Dental Crown or Filling

Having a crown come off or losing a filling is usually not painful. You may be more sensitive to hot and cold and eating will be a bit uncomfortable. We still want to see you as soon as possible to protect the tooth from any further damage. Gently clean the crown with water and wrap in tissue to keep it safe.

If a filling falls out, there isn’t much you can do except call us for an appointment and avoid chewing or drinking hot or cold liquids around that area. We will need to clean out the tooth that used to hold the filling and re-fill with new amalgam or composite resin (white filling material).

In both cases, call our friendly staff to schedule your appointment.
